Day 99 Another Day in Dubrovnik
We are staying in such a great place in Dubrovnik! Our apartment has this amazing view of the Old Town and of the ocean…complete with boats and islands! We have amazing sunrises and sunsets…who could ask for more? Oh and it is a 2 bedroom apartment…woohoo! So Russ and I have a little privacy…much needed on this trip! Well, you know how all good things have a catch…nothing in life is free… all those sayings?? Well it is true for us here too! Our beautiful apartment is on a high hillside above town…a hillside we have to navigate for anything we need! If you want to go to the store….dinner…a bakery…museum…bus…laundry…seriously anything…it is a 10-15 min walk down and a 20-30...
About 40 Days Behind… Now What??
Okay…so thanks to spotty internet and times on the road…and maybe a bit of laziness..I am about 40 or so days behind on my blogs…and it gets worse with each passing day! I am not sure if I should just keep trying to catch up…resulting in people thinking it might be my birthday in January…or if I just post what is going on today…but I still want to post all of my days if anything just for my own sake…so what to do? I am thinking I may post the current day…and then post as many days to catch up as I can! It may be a bit confusing…but at least I will have the memories of the trip! So sorry if this bothers you, not that anyone is reading this anyway…so maybe I am just apologizing to myself…in...
Day 55 Off to Assisi to See A Saint
I was excited to go to Assisi and see the Basilica de San Francesco up close and personal! We came armed with our Rick Steve’s Italy book and were ready to hit the town with his walking tour! Now if you have not had Rick take you on a tour, you have missed out! He literally tells you exactly where to start and guides you through points along the way…and honestly I get lost going to the bathroom, and he respects dorks like me and works with us, if you follow his tour you will hit the highlights of a town and you won’t get lost! One of the things that I did not expect to see were Roman ruins, I know I am in Italy and the Romans were here…but I guess I just don’t think of Roman ruins when I think of hill towns. There are some really...
Day 54 Turkey Day
It is here! Thanksgiving! Today is my favorite holiday…and I get to celebrate in the hills of Tuscany! This morning we were slow to rise! We took our time getting up and around! The farm that we are staying at has about 6 cats…give or take a few…that Reid loves to play with! His favorite cat is called Donut. Donut is a cute little gray striped cat that lets Reid do whatever he wants with him! Reid has taken to putting Donut in his sweatshirt and walking around with him! It is really cute to see Reid talking to him and walking around with him, like he is his furry baby doll! Today was culinary challenge day! We had to try to make Thanksgiving dinner with ingredients lacking, math problems to solve, and recipes to find. We almost had a...
Day 53 A Day of Rest
After all of our galavanting around the Italian hill towns, it was time to rest a bit…and besides we had a Thanksgiving dinner to prepare! In order to feel less like we are a zillion miles from home on Thanksgiving, I decided that we were going to have an American Thanksgiving in Italy. We invited our sweet hosts who own the beautiful property that we were staying at, La Falconara, there names are Alex and Ingrid. They are both in their early 70’s and about the most kind and wonderful hosts you could ask for (especially when you are homesick!) When I brought up the idea of them joining us for the occasion, they were delighted! Alex told us that getting a turkey can be quite a trick in Italy, and asked if we would be okay with a chicken? We said...
