Day 37- Goodbye Venice Hello Pescara

Truth be told we have some parts of our trip planned and some parts are not.  When it came to Italy, we did not have much planned.  Some events changed, like having to go back up to France to meet at the haunted chateau, spending time in Paris with Russ’ sister and our niece, so Italy was a bit shaky at best.  The one place I knew that I  wanted to go was a place that my family had stayed in Tuscany. If any of you know my step-dad Bill…he is more like a dad to me…to know him is to love him!  He is just a great guy to be around!  One thing he has done a lot in his life, is travel! He has a way of  finding interesting places to go and interesting things to do.  So when he told us about La Falconara, where he stayed with his current wife Kay ( a...

Day 36 Time for Some Venetian Culture

Day 36- Today we got up early, early so we could eat the free breakfast, and early so we could go downstairs to use the internet.  One thing I am not sure if I have mentioned, is that the internet sucks in Italy.  Yes, I said the “s” word, but it is true!  It is unreliable at best, spotty, and overall just a pain.  Now for normal tourists this would not be a problem, but when your husband works online, you are trying to write a blog, your are homeschooling your son, and you use the internet to call your family…it is a HUGE bummer!  So we ate breakfast and got caught up as best we could (yes I was a bit lazy when it came to blogging…reasoning that I didn’t really have enough time to post…and now here I am playing catch...

Day 35 When You Go To Venice You Must Bring Your Boots

Day 35-  We were up and ready to go at the crack of 11:00 this morning…not sure what took us so long getting out the door. Maybe it was our teeny tiny showers or maybe it was too much time spent gawking out our windows…but whatever it was, we were late getting out.  Yes, so late in fact we missed our free breakfast at the hotel!  So off we went, we were headed to St. Marks by foot, and we had no idea what we were in for! As we crossed the Spanish bridge, we decided to stop in a cafe to grab a coffee and some breakfast.  Okay, I have to admit that I like Italian brioche (croissant) better than the French ones!  What? Oh you heard me!  So after breakfast we set out on our walk around Venice!  One of the first things that I noticed as we began to make...

Day 34 Enchantment on the Grand Canal

Day 34- If you know anything about my life, you may know that my husband Russ is …hmmm how can I say this…budget minded (cheap).  So when trying to book a hotel for Venice I had to check price and parking…two things that everyone thinks about when they think of Venice…not.  Somehow I stumbled upon the hotel Santa Chiara…it claimed to be on the Grand Canal and have parking… and it fit our budget!  Who knew?  I have to admit, I was not expecting very much when we did our last minute booking…but hey I figured at least we were in Venice right?  It was late when we got to our hotel…and the first thing I noticed was that it was right on the Grand Canal…and it looked dare I say it charming…not...

Day 32…Mustard Anyone?

Day 32- November 5th- Paris to Dijon…So again we pack our things and get ready to head out of town…but oh my it was the getting out of town that was crazy!!  Let’s just say that you must be aggressive to drive in Europe…really aggressive…and apparently lane lines are merely a suggestion.  We almost got into 2 severe accidents trying to make our way out of town…tense times for Jacques Le Lumiere and his crew…he almost had his cute little orange skin scalped by several cars! Finally we hit the road are in the French countryside.  It is so picturesque and beautiful.  In Europe they have such great signs on the freeway (or motorway as our English GPS calls it) that show you a town and a picture of an important sight in the...
